LED Floodlights – A worthwhile investment in efficient lighting
The new range of LED floodlights is now in South Africa. The technology advances in LED technology now offer you high quality floodlights for your home or business. In terms of energy saving, LED floodlights deliver this and more. Flood lights are just that – they flood an area with light, whether it’s a parking area, signboard, or home entertainment area, lighting is one of the main security requirements.
Why Use LED Floodlights?
In the past , LED’s were used primarily in traffic signals and other applications that require high visibility – signals or lights that can be seen clearly from distance. In this application , LED lighting proved most effective. There were some questions regarding the ability of LED’s to PROJECT LIGHT.
Developments in LED technology have led to these LED floodlights becoming more efficient at projecting or ‘throwing’ light , therefore making them acceptable alternatives to normal Mercury Vapour, high pressure Sodium and Metal Halide floodlights.
LED floodlights offer similar light output levels at a fraction of the energy requirements and this is where their appeal lies for the consumer.
LED Floodlights – Lighting Output
The big attraction for using LED floodlights are the comparisons between the energy used to deliver the same level of lumen output.
So , let’s say a standard 100W linear floodlight would only require a 20W LED floodlight to deliver the same light output of around 820 Lumens. Moving up the spectrum , a 100W LED floodlight would replace a 500W linear halogen floodlight. So the maths here is quite simple…using these floodlights would reduce your energy consumption on your floodlights by around 80%.
If you have 10 X 500W floodlights around your premises then switching these to LED would take that consumption from 5000W per hour or 5kWh to 1000W per hour or 1kWh. Which means that instead of using 5kW per hour , you would cut that down to 1kW per hour!
Over a daily 10 Hour period, that would save you 40kWh per day – or around 1200kWh per month. That’s a pretty good reason to convert to LED Floodlights – don’t you think?
As the technology advances in LED floodlights continues and the demand for energy saving lighting products increases, the types of floodlights will continue to gain traction in the market.
Lighting the Way for Energy Efficiency.
Many business utilise lighting every day as an essential function of operation without ever looking up until a light fails.
Whether through offices and lobbies, or in factories lighting plays a key role in commercial business success.
As a business, the operational costs of using and maintaining lighting systems can be costly, especially if those fittings are older and less efficient.
A primary example is that of fluorescent fittings that age and diminish in output as they do. This leads to lower light levels and possibly risk of injury to staff on site.
Over the years, LED lighting has become both more efficient and more affordable as the technology of production and lighting output efficiencies have increased.
With new technology, fluorescent tubes can now be retrofitted with LED with little or no modification and the odl floodlights changed to super efficient LED.
The outdated 400W high bays can be replaced with LED versions.
This lowers the cost of both operation and maintenance significantly.
Get proper advice first.
With anything in energy saving, it’s easy to be swayed by the promise of great performance and very low cost, but as with anything, if’ it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.
It’s incredibly important to speak to specialists in their field BEFORE you act on retrofitting or installing new LED fittings for your business.
The right advice is worth 100 times the cost as being safe and ensuring proper lighting levels at work as well as having high quality products with proper national backup cannot be overestimated.
Clear Sky LED’s have been partners with Saving Energy for more than 5 years and they offer not only a superb range of products with excellent service and backup, but proper advice for business owners around all things LED.
If your business is a lighting dinosaur, then it’s time to evolve to the modern era.

No Excuse to not get a solar geyser.
Ubersolar, Saving Energy’s solar geyser partner is now offering consumers the incredble opportunity to buy a solar geyser with a deposit and a payment plan with 0% interest over 12 months.
James Green, MD at Ubersolar has brought this innovative (and very attractive) product offering to lessen the financial burden of reducing water heating costs for the home owner.
In times when money is incredibly tight, the average home owner can’t afford the expense of investing R15000 or more on a proper solar geyser, but Ubersolar have solved that with their unique solution.
For more on this please fill in the contact form below and James and his team will contact you.
Using a concept called the ThermX heat exchanger (similar to evacuated tubes on a solar geyser), the Solar Thermal Air con unit uses the heat of the sun to drive the refrigerant instead of electricity.
70% more efficient than a standard air conditioner and offering heating and cooling, this internationally patented tech can be used for business or home. Each system is different and requires individual specs and specialised installation.
Solar Geyser – Free Hot Water.
The collector plate or evacuated tubes using the Sun’s energy to heat water and then it is pumped back to the geyser and piped through the home.
Provided there is UV , the water will heat. On days where it rains or there is minimal sun, they have an electrical backup to ensure you have hot water.
