Electricity Bill Shock!
Was this you? Receiving those first winter electricity bills and then wondering if you could get a second mortgage to cover it?
Ok, so not a second mortgage – but it would certainly have left you scratching your head and spending nights on your Family Expenses household budget EXCEL Spreadsheet trying to find where you can move some Rands around to pay it by due date.
This is typical of a South African consumer – we are reactive , not proactive.
We wait til the impact hits and then try and find shelter, rather than the other way around.
In winter, your biggest electricity costs are your hot water heating and your home heating. Whether you use gas, electricity, diesel or fire to heat your home , this is one expense that is going to climb and one that you have little or no control over.
When it comes to water heating however, you DO have options that will reduce your electricity bills by as much as 25%-30% using simple gadgets and sensible insulation.
No lyrical waxing here.
Water heating can take up to 50% of your energy usage every month and possibly more depending on how many geysers you have in your home.
Simply put, your geyser can switch on and off up to 30 times per day using around 3000W to do so – even if it only stays on for 20 minutes, that’s 1000 watts – or 50 watts per minute.
At the current ESKOM Tariff, this would be R1-50 every time it switches on – so R45-00 per day.
This is R 1350-00 per month- JUST ON YOUR GEYSER!
If you could save 40% of your geyser usage…would you?
Would that make you happier? MOST CERTAINLY!
So , how do you do this?
You install a geyser timer and geyser blanket.
The timer controls when the geyser switches on and off and stops it switching on and off when you DON’T NEED HOT WATER!
The blanket then adds extra saving by insulating the geyser and stopping the hot water losing it’s heat to the surrounding colder air – it’s called thermodynamics and it is a natural phenomenon .
Ah – now the biggest question – HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
Glad you asked that -Just R1690-00 in Gauteng & Durban and R1490-00 in Cape Town.
This includes supply, installation , setup as well as the pipe insulation on the geyser for about 1 m.
Which you would recover in less than 3 months!
Plus – the savings will continue in summer as well and you will reduce your CO2 emissions as well!
How can you do this?
